Super Painter Review

Posted on March 14, 2022October 24, 2022 by Pascal Belisle

I always liked floor-painting games. There was Miner 2049er on the ColecoVision, City Connection on the NES and now there is Super Painter!

The concept is simple enough: you paint floors and walls while avoiding enemies. The graphics are cute and colorful. The music is nice and entertaining. The controls are a bit difficult to master though, mostly with the ladders. You can wrap the screen, like Pac-Man. It allows for some tricky puzzling tricks. For example, there is some levels where you have to fall and reappear on the top, but the challenge lies in landing on the right spot while avoiding enemies.

The game can be difficult, but luckily there is unlimited continues (maybe not unlimited, but I didn’t reach the limit!).

The downside of this game is that it’s too short. There is little replay value. Beside adding more levels, there could have been a creative mode where you make your own levels, or maybe a two player mode, or some collectibles or unlockables.

One other complaint I have, is that when a level starts, it sometimes take a few second to figure out where your character is. There should have been some animation to get your attention, because sometimes I would die before even knowing where I was!

Overall it’s a fun, charming and challenging retro platformer you might want to add to your homebrew collection!

My score: 7 out of 10
